About Charm
Our mission is to return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO₂. We convert excess inedible biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into underground storage for permanent carbon removal. At scale, we can use bio-oil to make fossil-free iron.
Our carbon removal efforts began in 2020 with initial purchases from customers like Stripe, Shopify, and Microsoft. Since then, we’ve scaled to thousands of tons of carbon removal, grown to over a hundred employees, and established three locations in San Francisco, Colorado, and Kansas. Join us in 2025 as we work toward putting 10,000 tons of carbon back underground!
We're expanding our team of ambitious, creative, and hands-on problem solvers. We value psychological safety, collaboration, and continuous learning. We take calculated risks and treat mistakes as opportunities to improve. If you're excited about tackling big challenges, we encourage you to explore our our company values.
Come help us reverse climate change. Gigatons or bust!

About the Role

  • We’re looking for an engineering technician who is eager to jump into a small team working towards designing an optimally performing pyrolyzer, the backbone of Charm Industrial’s operations and mission.
  • You’ll be working alongside a cross-functional team of engineers to design, build, and test a novel pyrolyzer. You’ll work to continuously improve that pyrolyzer to meet key performance metrics like carbon conversion and reliability.
  • You’ll be successful at this role if you love working with your hands on electromechanical equipment, you’re eager to learn about pyrolysis, and you’re constantly thinking about how you could improve the system through small and large modifications to make this system optimal for our operations team.
  • If you’re safety-minded, proactive, mechanically confident, and can prioritize multiple tasks on a daily basis, we’d love to talk with you!

Your Responsibilities

  • You’ll be assembling, disassembling, improving, and modifying the next generation of Charm pyrolyzers on a daily basis.
  • Often, you’ll operate the pyrolyzers and component test rigs for the team’s learning. You’ll document learnings and share with the rest of the team as you go.
  • You’ll troubleshoot electromechanical equipment as needed with the goal of getting things working as intended. You’re comfortable pointing out strange sights and sounds of mechanical equipment, and you take pride in keeping equipment, spaces, and tools functional.
  • You’ll use machinery and powered equipment (i.e. forklift, personnel baskets, telehandler, scissor lifts, etc) when required for assembly or testing.
  • You’re comfortable communicating with your team on digital platforms. You’re comfortable with data recording and note taking during tests or assembly processes.

You Bring

  • 2 - 5 years of hands-on experience around machinery and/or heavy equipment.
  • Practical experience assembling/disassembling novel/complex mechanical systems.
  • The ability to work autonomously and troubleshoot on the job.
  • Experience operating forklifts, telehandlers, scissor lifts, and/or a willingness to learn.
  • A proactive, professional and “can do” attitude,
  • Passion about contributing to our mission and growing the company.
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl in awkward spaces.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
  • There may be prolonged periods of standing and walking.

Bonus, if You Bring

  • Experience operating high temperature and/or high pressure systems
  • Familiarity with chemical processing systems and the terminology associated with them
  • Knowledge of electromechanical systems and general electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Basic to advanced fabrication skills
