Are you a final year Master’s student looking for thesis opportunities during the spring semester 2024? Curious about aerospace development at the cutting edge of emerging technologies and new markets? How does a dynamic scale-up company with an international team of experts sound?
Heart Aerospace is looking for one or two master students to join our Structures & Interiors team.
Thesis description
A Global Finite Element Model (GFEM) is a mathematical model representing the aircraft structure made up of idealized frames, panels, stringers, etc., that are represented by a coarse mesh with the use of shell, bar, and rigid body elements. This model is analyzed for various load combinations. The internal loads extracted from this model are used as input for analyzing a structure's specific behavior and strength utilizing automated tools.
Currently, this is a manual task, and is as such repetitive, time-consuming and error prone.
This thesis involves investigating how automation can be used to improve the post-processing efficiency (time to process the data) and quality (removing human error in repetitive tasks). The focus will be around developing a tool to extract the loads from the GFEM and processing the data in the required format.
The tasks involved in the work include:
- Identify the type of elements in a specific region of the GFEM.
- Identify and extract the loads based on the element type and load cases.
- Organize the loads in a simplified usable format.
- Plot the shear force and bending moment distribution over the selected region.
- Test the validity of the tool.
- Automation to size simple structures.
