About Pacific Fusion

Pacific Fusion was founded in 2023 with the mission to power the world with abundant, affordable, clean energy.

We are rapidly designing and building a pulsed magnetic fusion system to achieve net facility gain (more fusion energy output than stored energy input). In parallel, we are developing the key components required to build affordable fusion systems.

Our plans are ambitious. We have raised over $900M so far from incredible investors, resourcing us to deliver on these plans. We are bringing together the best scientists, engineers, and operators from the fusion community, hard tech industry, and other sectors. We are united by a shared sense of urgency to provide clean power for the world, particularly managing climate change while meeting growing global energy demand. You can read more about us in this letter from our founders.

Why This Role Matters

As a Pulsed Power Intern, you’ll support the development of 1 Hz testing equipment for commercialization of pulsed power systems, while gaining direct experience in high-voltage, high-energy experimental work. You’ll own a well-scoped technical project and contribute to day-to-day high bay operations.

What You'll Do

  • Assist the team in developing 1 Hz testing equipment to support commercialization of pulser systems
  • Design an experiment with guidance from the pulsed power and high bay teams
  • Carry out the experiment independently within the summer internship timeline
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data
  • Present experimental results to the engineering and physics teams
  • Assist with high bay operations, including setup, testing, and teardown of pulsed power hardware
  • Support assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of high-voltage systems and diagnostics
  • Following and contributing to safety procedures for high-energy electrical systems

What You Bring

We’re looking for someone curious, hands-on, and excited to work with real hardware.

  • Current undergraduate student pursuing a degree in science or engineering
  • Interest in or experience with hands-on work involving hardware and electronics
  • Willingness to work in a lab and high bay environment
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and safety protocols
  • Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail

Additional Requirements:

  • Able to work full time, onsite for a minimum of 10 consecutive weeks beginning in June 2026

Bonus Points For

  • 6+ months of a previous internship, co-op, or academic project experience outside of normal classes
  • GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Coursework or experience in circuits, power electronics, electromagnetics, or pulsed power
  • Familiarity with oscilloscopes, high-speed diagnostics, or data acquisition systems
  • Experience with CAD, simulation tools, or data analysis (Python, MATLAB, etc.)

What We Offer

  • Real resume building engineering experience
  • Mentorship from experienced engineering professionals
  • Exposure to the full product development lifecycle
  • A collaborative and learning-focused work environment
  • An unforgettable summer!
