Rainmaker is pioneering a modern cloud seeding system to solve water scarcity and inclement weather problems. Rainmaker scientists aim to understand the physical and chemical characteristics of novel cloud seeding particles and how they interact with clouds. This role is responsible for conducting highly technical and complex research projects independently and in consultation with a supervisor. It includes daily operation of laboratory equipment and assisting in experimental setup and execution of aerosol characterization studies in the laboratory and in the field.

What You'll Do

  • Characterize aerosol samples by their size, hygroscopicity, and ice nucleation ability
  • Compete field work measuring aerosols and meteorological conditions
  • Operate and maintain sophisticated scientific equipment
  • Process and analyze research data and effectively communicate the findings to the greater scientific and engineering teams

Required Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and in a team setting
  • Experience setting up meteorological and aerosol instrumentation in a field setting
  • Aerosol sizing expertise
  • Experience with experimental design and data interpretation
  • Able to produce consistent, high-quality results
  • Ability to work effectively with shifting priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ice nucleation experience (CFDC, IS, PINE, etc)
  • CCN or hygroscopic measurement experience
  • Experience designing aerosol inlets or calculating aerosol losses in inlets
  • Experience using or designing aerosol dispersion devices

Education & Experience

  • Preferred Education: PhD or Master’s degree in atmospheric science, chemistry, physics or other relevant fields
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in atmospheric science, chemistry, physics or other relevant fields
  • Preferred Experience: 3 years
  • Minimum Experience: 1+ year working in a laboratory research or technical support role
  • Preferred Field of Expertise: Aerosol science, atmospheric science, chemistry, physics, meteorology
