About Stand

Stand is a new technology and insurance company revolutionizing how society assesses, mitigates, and adapts to climate risks. Our leadership team has extensive experience in insurance, technology, and climate science: building billions in market value at prior ventures. At Stand, we are rethinking how insurance enables proactive, science-driven resilience.

Existing insurance models often rely on broad exclusions, leaving homeowners without options. At Stand, we leverage advanced deterministic models and cutting-edge analytics to provide personalized risk assessments—helping homeowners secure coverage and take proactive steps toward resilience.

Why Join Stand: At Stand, you’ll join a mission-driven team redefining insurance through the lens of climate resilience, building a transformative, data-driven insurance model with real-world impact for homeowners and communities on the front lines of climate change.

Background: We’re expanding our technical team to develop groundbreaking technologies for quantifying climate risks at the property and community levels, and we’re hiring an exceptional Senior Product Engineer to be a key part of this effort.

Homes respond differently to climate catastrophes, such as wildfires, but traditional methods often fail to accurately assess these risks. As a result, homeowners lack guidance on protective measures, and insurers give little credit for mitigation. At Stand, we combine deterministic physics models and cutting-edge AI to provide a precise understanding of a home’s unique risk environment in the calculus of writing insurance.

We are not sponsoring Visas at this time.

Role Description: As part of Stand’s software engineering team, you’ll manage diverse applications and pipelines—from automating core insurance workflows (policy management, payments, claims, underwriting) to building novel processes like wildfire preparedness inspections and real-time monitoring. You’ll work closely with our applied science team to productionize solutions, including cloud infrastructure, data visualization, and data collection pipelines.

We’re not just hiring software engineers—we’re looking for builders ready to redefine what software engineering means in the age of LLMs and agents. At Stand, you’ll work end-to-end, from uncovering real stakeholder problems to shipping and maintaining solutions, balancing speed with craftsmanship. You’ll move fast, embrace both the exciting and the unglamorous work, and help prove we can build a billion-dollar tech-native company with a small, insanely effective team.

Founder Mindset: We’re looking for candidates with a founder mindset—the drive, ownership, and creativity it takes to build something from the ground up. Our founding team includes former founders and CEOs from Metromile, WePay, and HotelTonight, and many on our team have started or scaled early-stage startups. To us, a founder mindset means:

  1. Ownership and Accountability: Take full responsibility for projects from start to finish, ensuring impactful outcomes, not just task completion.

  2. Purposeful Execution: Work with speed and quality, making fast decisions when needed, while understanding the balance between strategy and action.

  3. Clear Communication and Autonomy: Communicate clearly and operate independently by understanding the broader context of tasks and decisions.

  4. Solution-Oriented and Collaborative: Focus on solutions, embrace constructive conflict with positive intent, and build trust through reliable action.

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • Experience building production level applications built with modern high level programming language (Python, Ruby, Rust, ect)

  • Experience deploying, maintaining and monitoring apps on modern PAAS systems (Heroku, Vercel, Railway).

  • Comfort Learning new tools, frameworks and languages quickly.

  • Track record of leveraging LLMs to rethink and improve engineering workflows for speed, quality, and scale

  • Conviction that building well-tested, clean code saves time.

  • Ability to work with end users in tight feedback loops to build better user experiences.

  • Proven experience owning projects and successfully working directly with stakeholders.

  • Interest in our Mission.

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Experience working at startups in a regulated industry.

  • An agile mindset (not Scrum).

  • Individuals and interactions over processes and tools.

  • Working software over comprehensive documentation.

  • Customer collaboration over contract negotiation.

  • Responding to change over following a plan.

Compensation:

The annual base salary range for full-time employees in this position is $150,000 to $220,000 + meaningful Equity Grant.
Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors, including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data.

Additional Benefits:

  • Comprehensive benefits including above-market Health, Dental, Vision

  • Weekly lunch stipend

  • Flexible time off

  • 401k plan
